DESCRIPTION: Found on both sides of the leaf of the chosen host the upper surface is seen to be a pimple 1 -2mm high and is slightly paler than the surrounding area. The depression below is also paler, sometimes with a darker edge to the affected area. The causal agent is a gall midge with a single transluscent larva found in the cavity. DISTRIBUTION: Infrequent throughout southern Britain but may be spreading. HABITAT: Found on the leaves of Field Maple.
